The Album
The Songs
1. Decades. Powerful song to start the album. It has great drumming, electronic elements, a catchy chorus, pinch harmonics, a massive breakdown, and big headbanging potential.
2. log_in//crash_out. This one begins very cybernetic, fitting the song’s theme. The verses reminded me of Cyberhex. Colossal breakdown with the blegh; I liked it a lot.
3. R.I.P. (Ft. Skylar Grey). This is a charming ballad, a gothic love/horror track. It was the third single on this album. And it features the American singer Skylar Grey.
4. Fight Like Hell. I’m sure they made this to be the sequel to their song for WWE’s Rhea Ripley theme, Demon in Your Dreams. It would be perfect for her.
5. Playing God (Ft. Corey Taylor). Another one of the singles. Heavy, crushing drums, melodic chorus with keys.
Here, Chris sings with Slipknot’s singer, Corey Taylor. Their voices work so well together.
Blegh, pinch harmonics, and my favorite breakdown on the album.
6. All That I’ve Ever Known. Kind of 80s sound. I loved it, really catchy.
That electronic breakdown is a very industrial, sickening part.
7. Blood Rave (Ft. Anthony Martinez (Dark Divine)). This track features Anthony Martinez, singer of Dark Divine.
It starts with pinch harmonics, a ballad part, and 80s danceable verses. This song has a lot of potential to become mainstream. Techno breakdown is both funny and super hard at the same time. The harmonious chorus with both of them singing reminded me of the Electric Callboy style.
8. Love at First Bite. It begins with a haunted organ sound like a gothic horror love story; I loved it. Very vampiric, I liked it a lot, very catchy. For me, it has a similar style to Werewolf; it feels like a follow-up.
9. Count Back from Zero. Industrial sound that also features an interesting electro breakdown.
10. Blood Pact. Distorted vocals, lots of sinister keys, and electro elements.
11. Afraid of the Dark. The first single. I even saw them playing live. It’s a killer track.
This song features numerous references to previous MIW songs and albums.
Like many of their songs, it has aggressively positive lyrics.
12. Sunglasses at Night (Corey Hart cover). A great cover of an ’80s classic, I love the original, and MIW did an incredible job recreating this anthem.
13. Hollywood. 80s electro gothic, with film references.
14. Fight Like Hell (Bonus Track Version) (Ft. Ovtlier). Same song but with Ovtlier’s feature.
Final Thoughts
I loved the album, all the tracks, very pop, danceable, yet with its heavy sounds and elements. It’s a serious contender for album of the year. They are truly metalcore legends.
