They have 12 albums, and with this current tour, they are playing their recent trilogy, Opvs Noir, yet also incorporating some classic on their setlist.
I traveled the same day to Madrid, and because of slow traffic, I arrived at the venue at 20.50 when Lord of the Lost were playing the first song, Kill the Lights, so I couldn’t see the opening acts either.
The place was Revi Live, and it was great, but it was in an industrial part of the city, very far. I went straight to the merch stand to get a shirt of the band since this was the second time I saw them, the first time was in Chile, and at that opportunity, the rest of the audience and I got pictures with all the members, but when I went to buy merch after the show, they had everything wrapped and gone already. And now, because the venue was so far away, I wanted to get away from there as soon as possible when the band finished their set. Now, back to…
The Show
The first two songs were from Vol. 3: Kill the Lights and My Funeral, with its Johnny Cash reference to wearing black. Then, Damage and the classic, Prison. Followed by two of my beloveds, Forever Lost and Drag Me to Hell.
Another one of their recent tracks is the industrial I Hate People and the hits, Blood for Blood and Priest.
Next, the beautiful ballad, In the Field of Blood to continue with I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead and the solid On This Rock I Will Build My Church.
Other classics, In Darkness, in Light, and Loreley.
Later, more of their newer songs, Winter’s Dying Heart, one of my favorites of the trilogy, I Will Die in It, and The Things We Do for Love.
An older song, Doomsday Disco, and then to remember their time at Eurovision, my dearest Blood & Glitter. The setlist I saw before the show was supposed to end here with another song from that contest, Cha cha cha (Käärijä cover), but they added a couple of songs more.
Chris said that they don’t leave the stage to do an encore, so instead they invited Anna Brunner, singer of League of Distortion (one of their opening acts), to sing the song they recorded with her, Please Break the Silence.
To finish their presentation, it was now time for their Käärijä cover, Chris jokingly asked if we knew Finnish, to play Cha cha cha, and then, the lovely Light Can Only Shine in the Darkness.
The show ended at 22.40. It was perfect, I liked the equilibrium between new and older songs. The crowd was super motivated the whole time, singing all the songs, jumping. It was great to see that the band is so popular and loved here. Great experience, amazing musicians. An impeccable night.
A final note, their bassist, Klass Helmecke, has taken a break from touring, so Dom R. Crey (singer and guitarist of the German melodic death metal band NOTHGARD is replacing him. The band will also take a break after the tour for a while, and maybe they will work on more music, let’s hope so.
