Dolly Parton surprised us recently with the announcement of a new album, Rockstar, to be released in November 2023, in which several rock musicians collaborate with her doing rock covers and a couple of original songs. One of these tracks is “Bygones”, in which she sings with Rob Halford (Judas Priest), and it also features Nikki Sixx on bass and John 5 on guitar, both from Motley Crue.
People were surprised when this single came out, but I think that uniting the voices of the queen of country, Dolly Parton, along with the Metal God, Rob Halford produced a catchy song.
I like to see legends come together in creating music because besides all the infinite subgenres that exist in rock and metal (and I’m sure in country too), music has no limits, only creativity. And if it has the seal of approval of the Metal God, it is fine by me.
In my case, I prefer the cover she did of Heart‘s Magic Man, because I simply love this song, since always. Here she sings with Ann Wilson (Heart), that still has her amazing voice.
Regarding the rest of the album, we will have to wait until November to listen to it. But I love that the queen of country wants to participate in the rock world because she is and has always been a rockstar, no matter her music style, just because of her presence and story.
