UK’s doom with The River – A Hollow Full of Hope – Album Review

The Band

The River was formed in 1999, in London, England. Pastoral Past-Doom metal band that creates music and melodies that are heavily charged with emotions. Heavy music, crowned with the beautiful and piercing voice of Jenny Newton, brings you to the deepest abyss of your soul. Ethereal.

Line-up

  • Jenny Newton – Vocals/Guitars
  • Stephen Morrissey – Bass
  • Christian Leitch – Guitar
  • Jason Ludwig – Drums

Today, June 30th, The River released its fourth album, A Hollow Full of Hope.

The Songs

The album starts with Fading. Heartbreaking feeling, produced by Jenny’s vocals. The acoustic guitar then mixes with the rest of the band. Hopeless feeling,  “The light is fading away”.

It continues with Exits. Starts heavier with industrial tones.

Then comes, Tiny Ticking Clocks. Gloomy. Every day you’re getting closer to your end.

A Vignette. Heavier on the instrumental side, topped with sweet and powerful vocals. My favorite song on the album.

The album ends with Hollowful. It is an instrumental track, regardless of its name, it gives a hopeful and angelic sensation. Great way to end this record.

The album has a melancholic tone, doom. Jenny’s voice catches and absorbs you. Long tracks that make you travel to your depth, contemplatively. If you love bands like The Gathering, this album it’s an excellent choice to hear.
