The Album
Empty Hands is the seventh studio album by Poppy. It was released on January 23, 2026.
The album is a mix of genres like metalcore, industrial, and even grunge. Jordan Fish was the producer, and you can tell his influence.
The Songs
1. Public Domain. The first track starts super industrial, with Marilyn Manson vibes, then it softens a bit, and Poppy sings in a kind of robotic voice.
2. Bruised Sky. This is one of the singles on this album. Great song, it has a Spiritbox style. Heavier, Poppy screams throughout the song; in the pre-chorus and chorus, she sings melodically. The lyrics are about existential despair.
3. Guardian. This was the third single. It’s about a relationship. I liked it, very catchy. Nice guitar riffs that sound in the background.
4. Constantly Nowhere. This short track lasts 28 seconds with one singing verse. This is an interlude that transitions from Guardian into Unravel.
5. Unravel. Another single. Beautiful song, very romantic, but in a toxic way, unhealthy attachment. For me, this is one of the best tracks on the album; it has a lot of potential and is very catchy. It also has some screams, which I liked too.
6. Dying to Forget. We came from the previous song, which was very chilled and calm, and this starts with screams and is very heavy. So this is a jumpscare for sure. In the chorus, Poppy goes melodic too. It’s an angry song, with a badass breakdown.
7. Time Will Tell. A single. This is another of my favorites. Instant banger. It has a pop sound, screams, a guitar solo, and the breakdown that I enjoyed the most. Then, to end the song, it returns to the sweet chorus.
8. Eat the Hate. This track is about the hate that Poppy receives online. It has a grunge vibe.
9. The Wait. Nice. It has a mellow, calm energy.
10. If We’re Following the Light. It begins ethereal and pretty to transition later to screams and chunks, with a clean chorus, Good, catchy with a breakdown.
11. Blink. 44 seconds. Another interlude.
12. Ribs. A calm track with electronic elements, synth in the back. There are also screams, and the last part is like 90s techno, and it kind of resembles the Bring Me The Horizon sound (Jordan Fish’s touch).
13. Empty Hands. The title track is the last song on the album, too, and also the most potent one. It starts very heavy with some melodic lines and a supreme breakdown. It ends with a pig squeal. Just fire!
Final thoughts
Poppy’s seventh studio album is solid. This was my first review of 2026, and I’m glad I chose this album.
Most of the lyrics on Empty Hands are about love or relationships. She repeats the formula that she did on her previous record, combining pop, synth, metalcore, with industrial and electronic bits, and I think that’s the right path for her.
