On October 6, the music world and we, the fans, received great news that Rush is coming back to the stage.
The Band
Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 that consisted primarily of Geddy Lee (vocals, bass, keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitars), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion).
They are known for their virtuosity in playing progressive rock.
I saw them playing live in 2010 them at their only show in Chile. Besides the musical part that was incredible (they are some of the best musicians ever), their concert was hilarious because the whole time they projected scenes from the movie I Love You, Man. Starring the actors Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, who portrayed huge Rush fans.

After Neil Peart died in 2020, we thought that the band was finished. And it remained that way until a few days ago, when they announced their new tour, which will be called Fifty Something from June to September 2026, in which they will be playing in the USA, Canada, and Mexico (for now, yet I’m sure that they will add more dates and countries, I hope so).
However, the big question was who was going to take the drum seat? Well, that role will be fulfilled by Anika Nilles, a German drummer, who is amazing (I saw some Drumeo videos of her).

As it was expected, the reactions to this announcement are mostly positive, yet some people didn’t like the drummer chosen. They would have wanted Danny Carey (Tool) or Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), but I think they have a lot of work with their own bands, so I’m glad they selected a less-known drummer and a woman. I think Neil would have been happy with this choice.
I cannot be more excited about this news, and I hope I will be able to see these geniuses playing live again.
