Today, July 22, 2025, Ozzy passed away at 76 years old. A sad day. A heavy metal legend has died.
John Ozzy Osbourne was an English singer and icon. Known for being the singer of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath and for a prolific solo career, and even did a reality TV show with his family: The Osbournes.
Ozzy and Black Sabbath are considered the inventors of heavy metal as a music genre. So, every one of us who loves heavy metal has him in high regard and appreciation.
Very influential in heavy metal and music in general, a couple of weeks ago did his last show, Back to the Beginning, on July 5, 2025. Many musicians, including the original members of Black Sabbath, united to celebrate and play together with him for the last time.
I’m lucky that I got to see him playing live twice. In Chile. First time with Black Label Society and Korn, when Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society’s guitarist and singer) was also the guitarist of Ozzy. And then with Black Sabbath, a couple of years after that.
He had been battling different health problems derived mainly from Parkinson’s disease and drug and alcohol abuse.
Although this is a sad day for music, I’m glad that Ozzy did his final show and said goodbye to his fans and the whole world. Many don’t have that privilege. And just like that, another star joins Music Heaven.
Heavy metal, as we know it, wouldn’t be the same without you; it wouldn’t exist. Thanks for your music, Ozzy, you will always be The Prince of Darkness. And as your song says: see you on the other side…
