Yesterday, February 28, 2025, David Johansen died at 75 years old. He was an American singer, songwriter, and actor, mostly known for being the singer of the glam band New York Dolls.
New York Dolls were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. They played hard rock with an androgynous glam look and they are considered one of the early punk rock bands, being highly influential in the punk rock movement later on, on The Ramones, and in rock in general.
The band released two albums New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974) and disbanded in 1976 because of alcohol and drug addiction problems on some members.
After New York Dolls, David adopted the pseudonym of Buster Poindexter in the 80s and had a relatively successful career as a solo artist and as an actor, later on.
He was the only living member of the iconic glam-punk band, but he was dealing with an aggressive brain tumor for a while, which took his life a few hours ago.
A sad day for music, another rock legend has gone to Rock & Roll Heaven.
