New Year's Day
My Thoughts On

New Year’s Day – A Classic By U2

The last day of this year, 2023.

It’s time to reflect on what this year was, the good and the bad, what we learned and think about our goals, hopes, and dreams for 2024, what better way to do it than with music and of course with rock?

We have a lot of Christmas songs and there are always new versions, but for the new year, the only song that comes to mind is New Year’s Day by U2.

U2 is an Irish rock band, formed in 1976. When I was a kid, they were super popular and, although I’ve never been a big fan of them, I liked some of their songs, especially this one.

This song is from their third studio album, War, which was released on February 28, 1983.

The lyrics, especially on this album, were about politics and protest.

Bono, U2’s singer, had the idea to write this song about his wife, but it ended up being about Lech Walesa, a Polish political leader who was imprisoned during the Cold War and later became president of Poland.

The lyrics are about hope and love in difficult times. Love and hope can help you survive, and in this case, it was about Walesa and his wife.

So, in this spirit of hope, next year will be better. I wish you a great 2024… and see you next year!
