Groove Metal from the End of the World with Sobernot – Destroy – Album Review

The Band

Sobernot is a Chilean groove metal band. They make music that inclines more to thrash, with good riffs and killer guitar solos. Clean and harsh vocals in some parts. Their fans are always supporting them, and they have played with some big names on the international scene.

Line up

  • César “VAIGOR” Vigouroux – Lead vocals
  • Pablo “CHESPI” La’Ronde – Guitar & Vocals
  • Joaquín “YAKLS” Quezada – Bass
  • Piero “PYRO” Ramírez – Drums

Destroy, is their second studio album. It was released on July 7th, 2022.

The Songs

1. No Mercy, it’s the first song of the album, giving a potent start. Karma is going to get you, revenge song.

2. Smoke Masters (Gimme My Money Back), groove song. About a scammer. Very catchy chorus.

3. Death by Cunnilingus, self-explanatory title.

4. Tyrant Machine, is one of my favorite songs of the album. Post-apocalyptic world. Humanity is gone, because of atomic bombs.

5. Across the Toxic Dew. This song reminds me a bit of Pantera, but it makes sense because the band named them, one of their influences. Heartbreak song provoked by a toxic love.

6. I Recommend Amputation. It’s what an evil Dr. would say, that wants to cut body parts but also incorporeal things like souls.

7. Servants of the Yellow King. About a serial killer. Children disappear since this king uses them to make his rituals.

8. The Second Coming. About people that believe religion’s lies.

9. Killer Winter. Psicosis’s cover (a Chilean melodic death/thrash metal band). A song about current times. There are no ethics or morals, and every crime and sin is possible. There’s no faith or hope.

10. Destroy. It’s the title track. They want to destroy lame people, that have no style or purpose, with Sobernot’s music. This is another one of my favorite songs on the album.

Band

Destroy is a great album for any thrash or metal fan. So, if you want to move your skull and have a good time, listen to Sobernot’s music.
