A life without music is impossible, at least in my case. I need it, always, to keep me company. In the Internet era, and more precisely, the era of Artificial Intelligence, everything is fast, yet sometimes it is also fake. Although these technologies and platforms, such as Spotify or YouTube, help us and provide easy access to bands we may never have known, they also take away some of the emotion that searching for music…
I love watching music-related content on YouTube, whether reactions, interviews, or random musician stories. I’m a fan of a lot of these types of channels, but these are the ones that I watch the most: Finn Mckenty American graphic designer, marketer, and music commentator. He has 2 channels: Finn Mckenty and The Punk Rock MBA. He made hilarious videos (dark humor) about bands and music culture, focusing on hardcore and metalcore genres. Very entertaining.…
Last week, when I was writing my review of BlutEngel’s new album, something else got my attention too. They not only released their work on CD, vinyl, and digital, but also in cassette (limited edition). This got me thinking about the cassette revival. We, the oldies, the ones that were born in the 80s and before that, know pretty well the cassette format. An object that may seem weird to the newer generations, for us…
Nothing compares to that freedom and wholesome feeling of driving on a highway, enjoying your favorite music, it’s almost a type of meditation, at least that is what it has always been for me. Of course, your soundtrack on those moments usually depends on what you’re in the mood to listen to, but regardless of that, some songs are always present and belong to the road, they keep you company as you’re driving. These songs…
Last Monday (January 20th, 2025) the rock community mourned the loss of John Sykes, the legendary guitarist known for his influential work with Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake, who passed away at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with cancer. Who Was John Sykes? He was an English guitarist who began his career playing with the English heavy metal band Tygers of Pang Tang. Then, he joined the mythical Irish rock band…
Besides always listening to Sleep Token and Black Veil Brides (as my Spotify Wrapped told me) this year mostly Alpha Wolf’s music got my ears and attention. I don’t really know why, but I find this album so catchy, so it’s my number one for 2024. The rest of the ten albums are in no particular order, just records I liked this year. 1. Alpha Wolf – Half Living Things This year I…
After 42 years behind the drums of the beast, a few days after the 2 concerts in Chile and after the recent passing of the former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno, this December 7th, Nicko McBrain announced his retirement from touring. Nicko had a stroke in 2023 and even though he has recovered from that, he realized that he no longer can play as fast as before and that the touring lifestyle is now too…
On November 27, 2024, a special metal moment happened on American National Television, Knocked Loose performed Suffocate with Poppy on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Knocked Loose They are an American hardcore punk band formed in 2013 with 3 studio albums. Their most recent work, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, was released on May 10, 2024 (you can read my review here). The band combines hardcore with metalcore in their music. Band…
A couple of weeks ago I read the news that shocked some metal scene, specifically the metalcore musicians and fans. A German company, blegh.de, trademarked the word blegh for clothing and accessories usage. This brought as a consequence that other stores and creators that sell merchandising with that word in it had to get them out of their online shops or they had to see that the online store did it themselves. But… What…
In a world increasingly aware of the ethical, environmental, and health impacts of our choices, activism has found new forms of expression, particularly within music. The intersection of music and veganism is a powerful example of how artists can influence public consciousness, not just through lyrics but through the very ethos they embody. For those of us navigating both the metal scene and the vegan movement, this synergy is more than just a trend—it’s a…
